Dr. Shelley is Assistant Professor of Clinical Sociomedical Sciences at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. She received her medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City and her Masters Degree from the Columbia School of Public Health. She is board certified in Internal Medicine. Dr. Shelley is the former Director of the New York City Department of Health (DOH) Tobacco Control Program. Dr. Shelley’s research focuses on tobacco control with key areas of interest including smoking cessation in underserved populations, and health care system changes to improve the treatment of tobacco. She is PI of a New York State Department of Health funded grant to examine the effectiveness of a smoking cessation intervention among homeless clients. She is also PI of a CDC funded grant examining the effectiveness of a free nicotine patch program among Chinese Americans and PI of the Manhattan Tobacco Cessation Center, a grant from the New York State Department of Health Tobacco Control Program.
