Alec L. Miller, Psy.D.

Dr. Alec L. Miller is a clinical psychologist and an expert in the cognitive behavioral treatments of anxiety and mood disorders, stress management, borderline personality disorder, as well as suicidal and self-injurious behaviors. His clinical expertise has been highlighted by various popular TV and print media outlets such as CNN, PBS, CBS, Teen People Magazine, Ladies’ Home Journal, and the NY Daily News.

In addition, Dr. Miller is currently: Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences; Chief, Child and Adolescent Psychology; Director, Adolescent Depression and Suicide Program; Director, Clinical Services at PS 8 School-Based Mental Health Program; and Associate Director, Psychology Internship Training Program, at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AECOM), Bronx, NY.

Dr. Miller has become internationally known in the areas of adolescent depression, suicidology and self-injury, borderline personality disorder, and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). He has spent the past 12 years heading a clinical-research team adapting DBT for outpatient suicidal multi-problem adolescents, as well as contributing to the adaptation of DBT for other populations and settings. He has received federal, state, and private funding for his research. He has authored or co-authored dozens of articles and book chapters and is first author of a book entitled, DBT for Suicidal Multi-Problem Adolescents, to be published by Guilford Press in 2006. He has also co-authored a book entitled Childhood Maltreatment, Advances in Psychotherapy-Evidence Based Practice. He has conducted over 200 lectures and workshops to both lay and professional audiences and has trained thousands of mental health professionals around the world.
